LAPAROSCOPIC SLING SURGERY

For many women, urinary incontinence is a common and crippling issue. A third of women who are childbearing age experience urine leakage as a result of physical activity, as well as when they cough, laugh, or sneeze. Surgery is frequently advised when urine incontinence persists despite non-surgical treatment. A procedure called laparoscopic colposuspension uses a tiny abdominal incision to hold and support the tissues around the bladder neck. We are assured that laparoscopic colposuspension with sutures (keyhole surgery with stitches) is equally successful as open colposuspension (conventional surgery) for treating incontinence in the short term due to high-quality evidence (up to 18 months after surgery). We are unsure, though, whether laparoscopic or open colposuspension entails a lower risk of problems during and after operation.
