Oncological (Onco) Surgery for Gynecological Cancers
Overview
Onco-surgery is a critical component of treating gynecological cancers. Dr. Nayak performs comprehensive surgery for ovarian, uterine, and cervical cancers, combining tumor removal with preservation of surrounding structures when possible. These surgeries aim for complete cancer clearance while minimizing complications.
Indications
- Ovarian cancer (early and advanced stages)
- Uterine cancer (endometrial carcinoma, sarcoma)
- Cervical cancer (early and locally advanced)
- Complex pelvic masses or recurrent malignancies
Procedure
- Ovarian Cancer Surgery: Includes removal of one or both ovaries, fallopian tubes, and sometimes surrounding tissues or lymph nodes depending on disease stage.
- Uterine Cancer Surgery: Total hysterectomy with or without bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and lymph node evaluation.
- Cervical Cancer Surgery: Radical hysterectomy or trachelectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection for early-stage disease; extended resections for advanced cases.
All procedures follow oncological principles for complete tumor excision, accurate staging, and prevention of recurrence.
